One of the most popular KIMBO pieces is the Contraband dress, which is hand-painted and dip-dyed with white organic cotton. When designing this dress, fashion designer Kimbo Mesches was inspired by graphic lines, saying “I wanted to combine mediums and create something that combined architectural graphic lines with a pop of color, using an organic dip dyed effect.” The effect is slightly different every time because it is created by hand before the fabric is sewn, ensuring that each Contraband dress is a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

KIMBO at Sakura for Japan Relief

A few weeks ago, KIMBO participated in the Sakura: Garden of Hope Fashion Show at NYC’s 1 Republik Lounge. to raise money for Shelter Box and Japan Society in an effort to aid disaster relief.

KIMBO was one of five designers featured at the fashion show charity event, which raised more than $2,400 to support Japan’s ongoing efforts of rebuilding following the Tōhoku earthquake in early 2011.
